Small????

Paige had her 2 year old check up last week. She is doing well in all developmental areas. She weighs a wopping 19 lbs 4 0z and is 32 in. tall. However, our Dr. wants her to go to an Endocrinologist "just to make sure we aren't missing anything". She is just about 10th Percentile for height and not even on the chart for weight (US). I haven't made the apt. yet but not sure how I feel about this.

Hmmm...

Lis ~ is your doctor using a Chinese growth chart for reference also? That might put things in perspective!

Endo huh? Is that the thyroid? I should have gogoled it before commenting but I was anxious to leave a ((Hug)) and a thought or 2 cuz I know any testing can be scary.

My hunch is this: that she's in perfect proportion for who she is! Small but mighty!! Sounds like everything else is checking out GREAT, so an extra looksee is probably only peace of mind ~ which is never a bad thing!!!

Keep us posted!!!

My Emily was below the 10th percentile on the American charts until her 3 year old check up, then she was at the 25th percentile. Now at 8, she is at the 50th in both height and weight. Make sure he/she is referencing the Asian charts. It makes a difference. My doctor always felt as long as she was following her own curve, was in proportion, was developmentally on track, etc...not to worry. She was just tiny...for a long time. Now she is about the same size as all of the other girls in her 3rd grade class. Good luck with your decision...

We just had my daughter's check up and she is 21 months. She's 18 1/2 pounds and 31 1/2 inches. She's not quite on the charts yet, but my doctor is happy that she's progressing on her own curve. He said that he would be worried if it flatlined or it was going down.

My cousin's daughter was thought to be small and the doctor wanted her to take growth hormones. They measured her bones in her hand and it was growing normally and everything was in proportion, so my cousin refused to give the hormones and now that tiny girl is taller than her mom.

New to your comments but have been reading awhile. I adopted my daughter was adopted from Romania, (back in the dark ages of adoption) and she was always low low on the charts. Doc never suggested an Endo then. However as she matured there were some "strange" events. Lots of tests and worries. To sum it up, it would have been helpful to have had a baseline to go from. So take it for what it's worth from an oldtimer. :)
