The moon cake had several names. Previously it was called moon cake it was called the Hu cake, royal court cake, small cake, or reunion cake. It was primarily used as an offering to the Moon God. As the culture changed throughout history, it became a food item for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Today was the Autumn Moon Holiday that is celeberated in Taiwan. I made moon cakes that were a bit Americanized, but they came out soooo good. Paige even did a little mixing of the batter herself. The day started with Halloween Pancakes made by hubby..he was like you want me to make pancakes in these molds???? By the third batch he got the hang of it. So here are pictures of our pancakes, (they are browner because they are made of Whole wheat mix) and our moon cakes.

They look yummy! We looked all over in Taiwan for mooncakes. The only place we found some was at a gift shop in the airport.
